Embracing September's Abundance and Gratitude

Embrace September's Abundance

September, a month of harvest and plenty, offers us a unique opportunity to cultivate abundance and gratitude. Focusing on these qualities can attract positive experiences and create a more fulfilling life.

For me, September is a month of harvesting everything I sowed during the garden season and preparing the farm for winter slumber. I pick tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, pineapple sage, lemon verbena, and the remaining basil.

It is also my birthday month!

For others, it is fall leaves apple picking, back to school, and a return to routine for many families. September is basically a cornucopia of abundance!

The Cornucopia: A Symbol of Abundance

I always wondered where did the term, cornucopia, come from. The cornucopia, a horn overflowing with fruits and vegetables, is a powerful symbol of abundance. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Greek mythology, where the gods were often depicted as carrying horns of plenty.

The word "cornucopia" is derived from the Latin words "cornu" (horn) and "copia" (abundance). So September is a great month to manifest for abundance and journal writing.

But most importantly, it is about gratitude for what we have.

I am immensely grateful for The Naked Botanical. My farm is my happy place, and my joy is making products that make people happy.

 Manifesting Abundance

So, how can you manifest abundance?

  • Set Clear Intentions: Clearly define what abundance means to you. Is it financial wealth, abundance in relationships, or spiritual fulfillment?
  • Visualize Abundance: Create a mental image of your desired abundance, feeling happy, fulfilled, and grateful.
  • Practice Gratitude: Express gratitude for the abundance you already have in your life, no matter how small.
  • Take Inspired Action: While manifestation involves setting intentions and visualization, it also requires taking inspired action toward your goals.

Cultivating Gratitude

Here are a variety of ways to cultivate gratitude:

  • Gratitude Journal: Write down three things you are grateful for each day.
  • Gratitude Meditation: Focus on what you are thankful for during meditation.
  • Gratitude Affirmations: Repeat positive affirmations about abundance and gratitude.
  • Gratitude Rituals: Create a daily or weekly ritual to express gratitude, such as lighting a candle or offering a prayer.

Writing Prompts

Use Journal prompts to explore abundance.

  • Write a personal essay about when you experienced a sudden influx of abundance.
  • Create a poem expressing gratitude for the simple joys of life. Imagine a world where everyone is filled with abundance and gratitude.
  • Write a story about how this would impact society.

September Folklore: A Harvest of Gratitude

So, how did the the September theme of gratitude evolve?  Like all months, September is steeped in folklore.

  • Mabon: This Celtic festival, celebrated around the autumnal equinox, is associated with the harvest and the balance between light and dark.
  • Harvest Moon: The full moon closest to the autumnal equinox is considered exceptionally bright and associated with good fortune. (Notice that abundance theme again?)

Fall Activities and Preservation

So, let's tie in food into this wonderful month of abundance and gratitude. I am a canner and preserve the bounty that I grow. Fresh vegetables from the garden in the winter are different.

However, if you aren't a gardener, there are plenty of farmers markets where you can freeze, can, and enjoy your produce throughout the year.

  • Preserving the Harvest:  Learn how to can tomatoes, apples, and other fruits and vegetables to enjoy them year-round.
  • Freezing: Preserve fresh produce for later use in smoothies, soups, and other recipes.
  • Pickling: Create delicious pickles and preserves with cucumbers, onions, and other vegetables.
  • Dehydrating: Preserve herbs, fruits, and vegetables by dehydrating them.

Get Out in Nature:

There is nothing like spending time in nature. September is a beautiful month to enjoy these activities:

  • Apple Picking: Gather your family and friends for a fun day at a local orchard.
  • Pumpkin Patch: Visit a pumpkin patch to pick out your perfect Halloween pumpkin.
  • Hiking: Explore the beauty of autumn with a hike in a nearby park or forest.
