Salves are Mother Nature's Dab that Heals
Salves are one part beeswax, one part cocoa butter and one part Mother Nature's healing herbs. They are literally the dab that heals.
So does this sounds like you:
- You never met a door, cabinet, post, rock or anything that protrudes that you haven't banged yourself.
- Tripping is your occupation.
- You or someone in your family has more scraped and cuts then you want to admit?
- Poison ivy and bugs are your worse nightmare. They love you so much more than you hate them.
- There are those days when your head throbs like a son of b*tch and you want to try something more natural than a pint of alcohol?
- You think you are a teenager, but your body keeps telling you that you are twice your age, not your shoe size.
- Your body aches from whatever crazy thing you did to it. Cross fit?
- Lugging heavy objects? Sitting way too long binge-watching a Netflix series?
- Your skin feels like an alligator who hasn't been in the water for awhile?
It is all in the dab which we call a salve.
What Salves Do You Sell?
By the way, I created the salves for me. I fit every category listed above and some I don't want to admit. So, if you are remotely like me, here are some healing salves to help with life's bruises and pains:
- .All Purpose Salve contains calendula, yarrow, and comfrey. Use it for dry skin and cuts and bruises. (Um, remember the alligator skin?)
- Weekend Warrior salve contains dandelion, goldenrod, st john wort and arnica. The salve is great for aching muscles, joints, and hands. (Cross fit anyone?)
- Pounding Head and Tension salve contain lemon balm, chamomile, lavender, and peppermint. All these herbs help with calming the body and great for headaches and colds. Dap some behind your ears and on the offending pain, and relax. Let the herbs do their magic.
- Outdoor Ouchie salve contain jewelweed and plantain. Jewelweed is nature's antidote to poison ivy. Fortunately for you, it grows in abundance in my raspberry patch. It also helps with bug bites. I used it for bee stings. The plantain is very soothing to the skin. It doesn't work on yellow jacket stings. At least not for me. (And yes, I got stung once six times when harvesting one of my mints. (*Winching just thinking about it.*) Lavender oil was the only thing that somewhat helped.)
What is a Salve?
When I started selling my products at the farmer's markets, I heard every question imaginable. I learned that most people don't know what salves are. They know what a lotion is which is a creamy spread of ingredients intended to heal something-be it dry skin, bumps, or bruises.
But a salve? Not so much.
A salve is very similar to a lotion, but it is thicker and less runny. We use various herbal oils, beeswax from a local farm, and cocoa butter. We don't use any essential oils or scents in our products since we found many of our customers didn't like smells.
You will smell the cocoa butter which is the smell of chocolate, which we are slightly addicted too. (Just a wee bit.) So we think of our salves as part healing and part aromatherapy because chocolate makes you us happy. In our case, without the calories. (And yes, you can put the salve on your lips. But we warn you-the taste can be highly addicting on your lips.)
Our salves are on the medium firm side, but once you smooth it on your skin, it will melt into your skin. It can be on the oilier side so be aware of this if you intend to use it on your face.
What is an Herbal Oil?
Herbal oils consist of herbs infused in oil. We use organic olive oil. All of our herbal oils are from dried or fresh herbs from the farm. The herbs are infused for a certain amount of time and then strained.
So, are your ready for some soothing? Be sure to check out all of our wonderful salves.
